Who | What | Where | When | Why | How
A few years ago, a group of people, who are still part of Sojourn, had a vision of a new type of “church”. Daring to dream of a place where people who had never been to church before could go without feeling awkward. Envisioning a place where people who never felt like they “fit in” at a church could go and feel like they do belong.
It became clear to that group that most of the people who attend traditional churches were people who had been part of a church most of their lives. People outside of the church didn’t seem to be finding their way in. And why would they? Christians in general seemed to have forgotten their purpose...to love as Jesus loves.
They also wanted to have a place where people could come and ask hard questions about life and death. They admitted that the problems of life can’t always be easily solved, and that sometimes the answers are as hard to accept as the questions. They believe that the Bible holds the answers, and that Jesus is the way to peace, but that the journey to that place looks different for everyone, and that’s kind of cool.
The things that make us all different are the things that keep the conversation fresh, keep our minds fertile, and help us to grow in our spiritual journey. We don’t want to be stagnant. We come to Sojourn as we are, but we also trust that our journey toward God will not allow us to stay that way. We believe that God created us to be in a relationship with him and in relationships with each other.
No one has to do life alone...
